What We Do

MEMBERSHIP SERVICES

Three Statewide Membership Meetings/Trainings each year held in different regions of the state. CCADV offers scholarships for Board Members, Committee Chairs and Domestic Violence Member Program (DVP). DVP members also are reimbursed mileage for two cars and $60 towards lodging. The next Statewide will focus on methamphetamine and domestic violence, and is slated for June 12-14 in Colorado Springs
Room, board, travel and registration scholarships to Annual New Worker Institute, Annual Executive Director Institute, Advanced Advocacy Institutes and Leadership Institutes for People of Color (multiple times per year)
Technical assistance packets
• Specialized site visits, providing customized training and TA for staff and board
• Opportunity for networking and support with others involved with the domestic violence movement through CCADV membership listserv, regional meetings, regular updates and correspondence
• Support for involvement of rural advocates in the work of CCADV by travel reimbursement, providing access to teleconferencing, holding meetings and trainings in all geographic regions, increased use of technology for communication and networking
• Support for member involvement in national forums by underwriting the cost of sending advocates to conferences and trainings, with specific attention to ensuring that rural members and advocates of color have opportunity to attend such events. Recently members have attended VAWA Immigration Conference in Los Angeles, CA; Safety and Accountability Audit Training in Duluth, MN; National Network on Behalf of Battered Immigrant Women National Meeting and Training in Miami, FL; Women of Color Network Leadership Institute in Green Bay, WI, and Color of Violence II in Chicago, IL.
Funding to support projects, trainings, and work of CCADV committees

PUBLIC OUTREACH AND EDUCATION

• Development of education and referral resources in English and Spanish, and distribution of over 60,000 pieces of material
• Free workshops and trainings to community members with topics such as Domestic Violence in the Workplace, Youth/Teen Dating Violence, Understanding Domestic Violence, Elders and Domestic Violence, TANF, Battered Immigrant Women, Technology Safety Planning for Victims. To date CCADV has trained over 3500 community members.
• Distribution of a bi-annual newsletter
• Collaborations and partnerships with community based programs and projects such as Agape Church, La Voz y Fuerza, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Colorado Hip Hop Coalition, and Justice Information Center, Southern Ute Reservation, and Immigrant Rights Coalition

ADVOCACY

Acting as a strong statewide voice for legislation that improves safety and options for victims of domestic violence such as:

• Funding for domestic violence programs and services
• Economic Justice
• TANF and Colorado Works
• Access to transitional housing
• Gun Control
• Prison Building Moratorium
• Domestic Violence and the Workplace
• Restraining Orders

Community-based Safety and Accountability Audits which focus on systems change to increase safety for victims and community accountability for offenders
Systems Advocacy to improve institutional response to domestic violence
Involvement in taskforces, committees and boards to bring the voice of victims/survivors of domestic violence with participation in groups such as:

• Colorado Department of Human Services Welfare DV Advisory Committee
• Domestic Violence Offender Management Board
• Domestic Abuse Assistance Program (DAAP) Advisory Board
• HMIS Subcommittee
• NNEDV SafetyNet Project
• Ending Violence Against Women Project Advisory Board
• VAWA Funding Advisory Board

TRAINING

National trainers and facilitators at Statewide Membership Meetings
Past trainers include:

• Lundy Bancroft – Teen Dating Violence and Holding Offenders Accountable
• Gail Pendleton – Immigration and the Law
• Jill Davies – Women Defined Systems Advocacy
• Loretta Ross – Human Rights and Domestic Violence
• Leslye Orloff – Legal Remedies for Battered Immigrant Women

Leadership Institutes for People of Color-Two Institutes in 2006 with the focus on building leadership within communities of color. CCADV will provide lodging, travel and registration scholarships for up to 25 participants to support participation from all geographic regions of Colorado.

Advanced Advocacy Institutes are two-day topic-focus trainings which include national and local presenters. CCADV provides lodging, travel and registration scholarships for up to 50 participants from all geographic regions of Colorado.

Executive Director Institute is a 2.5-day training focusing on management and programmatic issues for ED’s of domestic violence programs. This year’s training is tentatively scheduled for August.

New Worker Institute is a 2.5-day training focusing on understanding the underlying philosophy of the domestic violence movement and to provide basic skill building. Training is provided by local and national experts. This year’s Institute is scheduled for May 1-3 in Steamboat Springs.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH

• CCADV’s goal is to provide technical assistance and capacity building concerning children and youth exposed to domestic violence
Conduct national research to secure information, materials and data concerning current models, program and practices concerning children and youth exposed to domestic violence
Create partnerships with community youth groups and individuals to effectively bring those underrepresented voices into the coalition
Involvement with community and system groups that address children/youth issues
Youth Advisory Council to better address issues that affect youth and incorporating those voices into CCADV
Advocate for the development of appropriate responses to children who are exposed to domestic violence

TECHNOLOGY

• The technology project focuses on increasing access and use of technology for advocates and victims
Free copy of ALICE database and ongoing training and technical assistance
• Development of interactive website
• Maintenance of CCADV membership listserv
•Provide computer and technology training at CCADV Statewide Meetings and other Coalition gatherings with focus on technology safety planning
• Provide technical and computer training for domestic violence programs by conducting site visits providing over the phone technical assistance
• Explore options for a statewide data collection and information sharing systems for domestic violence service providers
• Develop and maintain CCADV databases
• Explore funding options to support technology for Colorado domestic violence programs
