Escaping victimization is a process, and not necessarily a linear one. Like the wake of a boat that separates then crashes again upon itself, we find our way out of abuse in what often looks like chaotic motion, yet with tremendous power. By T.A. |
The Survivors’ Task Force is comprised of survivors of domestic violence who take a proactive approach to educating the community on the intervention and prevention of domestic violence. This is accomplished primarily through speaking engagements and special projects. This group specifically addresses the issues of formerly battered women, i.e., victimization, empowerment, and life after battering.
The Survivors’ Task Force also promotes the inclusion of formerly battered women as shelter workers, shelter directors, shelter Board members, and as speakers to inform and educate the public, legislators, and funders. The committee also works with CCADV to plan the annual rally on the first Monday in October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This event is intended to raise awareness of the crime of domestic violence, to memorialize those who did not find safety and to celebrate those who have survived.
For more information on the Survivors' Task Force, please contact the committee's CCADV staff liaison, Denise Washington, at 303-962-0930 or 1-888-778-7091 x818.
